A practical mapping workshop that turns complex operations into a clear, shared lifecycle view.
AXIS lifecycle maps
What it is
It’s designed for organisations where work spans multiple stakeholder groups, internal teams, and enabling systems — and where “how things really work” lives in people’s heads.
AXIS uses a simple service-map structure built around four domains:
The major phases of the lifecycle.
The end-user journey through those phases.
The internal activities required to support the journey.
The roles accountable for each task.
This structure creates two powerful perspectives in one artefact:
Above the line (phases + journeys) gives you an easy narrative of what stakeholders experience.
Below the line (tasks + roles) shows the operational reality — what must happen behind the scenes to deliver that experience.
In a facilitated session, teams co-design the lifecycle map using prompts and physical mapping to surface detail quickly, reconcile differences, and build shared ownership. The result is a practical, “decision-ready” reference: it shows intersections between stakeholders, staff, and systems; highlights handoffs and bottlenecks; and provides a foundation for improving processes, clarifying responsibilities, and shaping system requirements.
The result
Shows where stakeholders, staff and systems meet across the lifecycle.
Surfaces the points where work stalls or responsibility is unclear.
A decision-ready foundation for improving process and shaping requirements.
